Postdoctoral Fellow, McGill University – DNA Replication and DNA Damage using Single Molecule Microscopy
The Reyes Lab (McGill University, Montreal, Canada) has a postdoc position to study the detection and response to DNA damage at the replication fork using single-molecule live cell microscopy in budding yeast and mammalian cells. This work is the continuation of our recent description of the replisome in budding yeast using single-molecule microscopy (Kapadia, 2020, Mol Cell, doi: 10.1016/j.molcel.2020.08.014). The aim of the project is to characterise the earliest responses to DNA damage in eukaryotes, having important implications for cancer.
The successful candidate will lead pioneering work in the field of genome integrity, using an interdisciplinary approach that integrates Molecular Biology, Genetics, Fluorescence Microscopy, Coding, Image Analysis, and Mathematical Modelling. S/he will form part of a highly collaborative team composed of lab members from diverse research and cultural backgrounds.
Responsibilities. The succesful candidate will: 1. Work independently carrying out the project mentioned above and contribute with ideas for the direction of the project. Freedom will be given to match the work to the interests of the candidate. 2.Participate in lab meetings and journal clubs. 3. Contribute to the running of the lab. 4. Help with mentoring and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students. 5.Participate in local and international meetings to present our work.
Requirements: 1. Recent PhD degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field 2.A strong foundation in molecular and cell biology. Ideal candidates will have experience working with yeast, using fluorescence microscopy and be familiar with coding (Matlab or Python). Biophysics training and experience with mammalian cells is desirable 3. Highly motivated, accustomed to work and think independently but productive as part of a collaborative team. 4. Strong quantitative skills. 5. Effective communication skills.
Compensation: Salary and benefits will be set according to the regulations in McGill. Post-docs in McGill are unionized.
How to apply: Interested candidates should send a cover letter, CV and contacts for 2 references to Dr. Reyes (rodrigo.reyes@mcgill.ca)
Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
